Where can I find financial information about a company?

I need annual reports and financial ratios.

We recommend the following resources for company information. Keep in mind that publicly-held companies are required to file reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission and, therefore, will have published data available. Private companies, in most cases, have no such requirements. Research on private companies usually involves searching press releases, articles and even the individual company’s website to locate financial information.

See our Research Private Companies & Nonprofits page for more information on researching those types of companies.

EDGAR

EDGAR, the Electronic Data Gathering and Analysis and Retrieval system from the Securities and Exchange Commission, houses submissions from companies that are required to file forms by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Filings include 10Ks, 10Qs, and offering documents and begin in 1996. Information can be accessed and downloaded for free. If you need additional assistance in using EDGAR, check out Researching Public Companies Through EDGAR: A Guide for Investors.
